Fabio Gea - Lange Rosso Cul Otte 2020
According to Gea’s importer, this cuvée “could technically make a Barbaresco” but as you’ve now learned, Gea is quite opinionated about Piedmont’s wine bureaucracy. In fact, “Cul Otte” loosely translates to “undergarments,” a pair of which can be seen decorating his sickle-and-rake logo (that also coincidentally looks like a rear-end). The grapes, supposedly all Nebbiolo, come from his Barbaresco holdings, and are de-stemmed entirely before a 2-3-week maceration. Fermentation and aging occurred in porcelain and stoneware vessels before a zero-additive bottling in September of 2020. Roughly 215 cases were produced. NOTE: This is a glass closure so avoid using a corkscrew! Instead of cutting the wax, simply grab the string while securing the bottle with your other hand and firmly pull upward to break the seal.
